Karl Smesko and the FGCU women’s basketball team are back in the record books.

The Eagles set the NCAA women’s record for most three-pointers in a game after dropping 22 in a 97-60 win against East Tennessee State University Jan. 12.

The 22 three-point makes are also a program and Atlantic Sun Conference best, as FGCU made 10 three-pointers in the first half and 12 in the second.

“We shot the ball really well today,” said head coach Karl Smesko. “It was nice to a lot of players get hot in the same game, because it really worked to our advantage. I was not aware that we were approaching the record, but we shoot a lot of three’s every game so if we hit those shots at a high percentage we’ll probably be around that record number.”

Seven different Eagles scored three-pointers and they were lead by redshirt senior Betsy Adams who was 7-12 from behind the arc.

Adams scored a career-high and game-high 25 points.

The Eagles broke their own record of 21 3’s in a game that they set Nov. 28 2011 against Webber International.  At that time they shared the record with New Mexico State.

FGCU continue their conference schedule Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. against Atlantic Sun Conference newcomer Northern Kentucky Norse.
