Lee County deputies are on scene at Coastal Village apartments looking for an alleged shooter.

The sheriffs office received a call at 9:41 p.m. The caller informed officers that they heard multiple gunshots in the area and saw two masked men.

A helicopter and canines are on scene searching for the shooter and the masked men.

"We are actively searching everywhere we can," said Sgt. Stephanie Eller, spokeswoman for the Lee County Sheriff's Office. There is believed to be no injuries, Eller said.

University Police is aware of the search, but not on scene, as they do not respond to off campus calls.

"Our people are kind-of baffled by it. It is a strange call," Eller said. "If there was a crime we definitely want to make sure that we work it."

Students are advised by UPD to stay in their apartments.

"I locked all the doors and am staying inside, I don't feel safe," said Gabby Nicotra, an FGCU student and resident in Coastal.

If students have any information about the shooter or the masked men they are asked to call 911 directly, Eller said.

Coastal Village is located at the 1900 block of Skidmore Way.
