FGCU swimming takes on UNF

The carryover effect from last year's conference championship squad has taken hold in earnest as the FGCU Swimming and Diving Team sports a 6-3 record near the halfway point of their season.

Mixing in eager youth with fully cultivated veterans, the Eagles have attained a high profile win against Miami, with only one meet having been completed within the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Their upcoming Nov. 11th meet versus North Florida in Jackonville serves as an opportunity to make an official manifesto to fellow conference members that their ascendancy versus bigger named schools is no fluke.

Having had limited opportunity to establish a proficient track record, the North Florida Ospreys bring a 3-0 record into their first conference meet of the season. However, last year's squad experienced displayed aptitude, donning a 6-2 record, including a 5th place finish in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Championships.

Even while exhibiting such seemingly commanding form, the Ospreys suffered a debacle at the hands of the Eagles a year ago, succumbing 129-71.

A duo of all-CCSA swimmers who took part in the aforementioned drubbing, LynAnn Nelson (100 free, 200 free, 500 free), and Patricia Lanoue (200 fly) hope to for a reprisal.

Nelson claims a striking resume, as her times in the 200 free and 500 free helped her qualify for the NCAA "B" cut, and her time in the 200-free also met the 2009 U.S. Open time standard.

She comes fresh off a CCSA Swimmer of the Week honor as well, for meets between October 19th to 25th.

In order to stall such momentum, the FGCU Swimming and Diving Team must put the spotlight firmly on North Florida, rather then being blinded by the additional chance for glamour that the Miami (Ohio) Invitational meet can provide from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5.
